To make a dozen sugar cookies, here's a simple recipe you can follow:
Ingredients:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Additional granulated sugar for rolling (optional)
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. You can use an electric mixer or do it by hand with a wooden spoon.
Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition. Continue mixing until a soft dough forms.
If desired, you can roll the dough into 1-inch (2.5 cm) balls and roll them in additional granulated sugar for a sparkling finish. Alternatively, you can skip this step if you prefer less sweet cookies.
Place the dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches (5 cm) apart.
Gently flatten each dough ball with the bottom of a glass or your hand, to about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) thickness.
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Repeat the process until all the dough is used, and you should end up with approximately one dozen delicious sugar cookies. Enjoy them as they are or decorate them with icing or sprinkles if desired.
