When you put bread into a toaster, it goes into the toaster slots. These slots are openings or compartments specifically designed to hold slices of bread for toasting. The toaster's heating elements are located inside these slots.

Once the bread is placed into the slots, you can activate the toaster, and the heating elements will generate heat. The heat radiates from the elements and toasts the exposed surfaces of the bread facing the heating elements. The toasting process causes the bread to become browned and crispy on the outside, while the inside remains soft and warm.

After the toasting cycle is complete, the toaster will pop the slices of bread back up or eject them from the slots, allowing you to easily remove the toasted bread with your fingers or a utensil without any risk of burning yourself. This is a safety feature that prevents the bread from remaining inside the hot toaster once it is done toasting.
