Cooking rice in an Instant Pot Duo is a quick and convenient method that yields fluffy and perfectly cooked rice. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Ingredients:

  • White rice (jasmine, basmati, long-grain, or short-grain, as per your preference)
  • Water or broth (the amount of liquid depends on the type of rice; see the ratios below)
  • Salt (optional, for seasoning)

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice: Measure the desired amount of rice you want to cook and rinse it under cold water until the water runs clear. This step helps remove excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming too sticky.

  2. Add rice and water to the Instant Pot: Place the rinsed rice in the Instant Pot's inner pot. Add water or broth according to the following ratios:

    • Long-grain white rice: 1 cup of rice to 1 1/2 cups of water.
    • Short-grain white rice: 1 cup of rice to 1 1/4 cups of water.
    • Basmati or jasmine rice: 1 cup of rice to 1 1/4 cups of water.

Note: The above ratios are for standard white rice. Brown rice and other types may require different ratios and cooking times.

  3. Optional: Add a pinch of salt to the water for seasoning, if desired.

  4. Close the Instant Pot: Ensure the sealing ring is properly in place and the venting knob is set to the "Sealing" position.

  5. Select the rice cooking function: Press the "Pressure Cook" or "Manual" button (depending on the Instant Pot model) and set it to high pressure. Adjust the cooking time using the "+" or "-" buttons. For most white rice, set the cooking time to 3 minutes.

  6. Cooking: The Instant Pot will take a few minutes to come to pressure before the actual cooking time begins. Once it reaches pressure, the timer will start counting down from the set cooking time.

  7. Natural Release: When the cooking time is complete, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release the pressure for about 10 minutes. To do this, leave the Instant Pot untouched after the cooking time ends. After 10 minutes, carefully switch the venting knob from "Sealing" to "Venting" to release any remaining pressure.

  8. Open the Instant Pot: Once the pressure has completely released and the float valve drops, it's safe to open the Instant Pot. Fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains.

Your rice is now ready to serve as a delicious and fluffy side dish or base for various recipes. Adjust the cooking time and liquid ratio based on your preference and the type of rice you are using.
