To make a delicious gyoza filling, you will need a combination of flavorful ingredients. Here's a recipe for a basic and tasty gyoza filling:

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground pork (you can also use a combination of ground pork and shrimp if desired)
  • 1 cup finely chopped cabbage
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped cabbage, green onions, minced garlic, grated ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, salt, and black pepper.
  2. Mix all the ingredients together thoroughly until well combined. You can use your hands or a spoon to mix the ingredients.
  3. Once the filling is well mixed, you can test the flavor by cooking a small amount in a skillet. Adjust the seasoning if needed by adding more soy sauce, salt, or pepper according to your taste.
  4. Once you're satisfied with the flavor, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let the filling rest in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld together.
  5. After the filling has rested, you can start assembling the gyoza. Take a gyoza wrapper, place about 1 tablespoon of filling in the center, and fold the wrapper in half, sealing the edges with a bit of water.
  6. Continue filling and folding the gyoza until all the filling is used.
  7. Cook the gyoza by either pan-frying or boiling. To pan-fry, heat some oil in a skillet, place the gyoza in the pan, and cook until the bottoms are golden brown. Then, add a small amount of water to the pan, cover, and let the gyoza steam for a few minutes until they are cooked through. To boil, bring a pot of water to a boil, add the gyoza, and cook until they float to the surface and are cooked through.
  8. Serve the gyoza hot with a dipping sauce made of soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a touch of sesame oil.

Enjoy your delicious homemade gyoza!
